East Lancashire Road Club & Rochdale CTC

Club Runs

We try to cater for riders of all abilities in our annual clubrun schedule (see calendar). All rides usually meet at and depart from the Rochdale Leisure Centre (the venue for weekly Thursday night club meetings from 19.00 to 21.00 hours).

Saturday Beginners and Medium rides depart at 09.30 every Saturday morning throughout the year. The Beginners ride covers a 'gentle profile' route of 20 to 30 miles at the pace of the slowest riders. Medium rides follow the same format as the Sunday run described below.

Departing at 09.00 on Saturdays the Training (or Chain Gang) ride covers around 50 miles and is for faster riders and does not include a cafe stop. Please note that if you are dropped on this ride you must make your own way back.

Sunday clubruns leave at 08.30 in Summer and 09.30 in Winter. They are divided into three categories.

  • 'Short' rides up to 40 miles maximum.
  • 'Medium' rides cover 40 to 70 miles.
  • 'Long' rides (April to October only) cover 70 to 100 miles.

Ride Pace : All Sunday clubruns - short, medium and long - will normally be conducted at an average speed of 12-14 mph. The actual pace for each ride will obviously vary according to the route profile (see each individual route description).

All clubrun participants are expected to comply with basic clubrun rules (see the link below).

Individual ride destinations and departure times are listed on the website calendar, and route summaries for all rides, and destination cafe stops, can be found by clicking on the respective links below. We are also building up a list of runs on the Ride With GPS website. It is possible to download maps for your Garmin or similar device, print cue sheets and view maps of some of our favourite routes. GPS file and cue sheets for selected rides can be found on our GPS page or search for ELRC on the Ride With GPS website (ridewithgps.com).
